You can find employment from anything as a budtender to an analytical chemist, and the possibilities out there in the industry are ENDLESS! Becoming a budtender is one of the most popular entry-level positions in the cannabis industry. Just like a bartender will serve you drinks at a bar or a restaurant, a budtender will serve you legal cannabis at a recreational store and provide assistance throughout the entire experience. Many of the busier recreational shops have multiple budtenders working at once and this is a position that is almost always available somewhere!
2. Security Guard
Most recreational stores have a security guard working at the door just like a bouncer would work at a nightclub or a popular bar. The security guards job is to check ID’s and make sure everyone is over 21 and allowed to purchase legal cannabis, and they also maintain the overall functionality of the store and make sure they aren’t operating over capacity.
A trimmer is another popular position in Washington State, and every producer or processor has multiple trimmers. The trimmers get the nugs ready for packaging by taking off all the excess plant matter, and they make sure the nugs are pretty and ready to be sold in the recreational stores.
Every edible, bag of cannabis, gram of oil, cannabis infused beverage, etc. needs to be packaged, and this is another position in the legal cannabis industry. The packagers main job is to get the product into the correct package and get the products ready for shipment to the local recreational stores.
6. Analytical Chemist
All the products in the recreational stores need to be tested and approved by a cannabis testing laboratory before they can be sold to the public. The job of the analytical chemist is to analyze the products and make sure there are no contaminants, molds, pests, etc. You typically need a college degree in chemistry or a related field for this position, and there are cannabis testing labs all over the state of Washington!
Almost every industry that exists has Marketing positions available, and there are plenty of Marketing jobs in the legal cannabis industry. You can work as a Marketing manager for a grow operation, edible manufacturer, recreational store, tourism company, etc.
9. Delivery Driver
Many of the producers and processors in the state have delivery driver positions available. The main job of the delivery driver is to take the packaged products to the recreational stores that carry their products whether its flowers, concentrates, edibles, etc. Every producer and processor needs delivery drivers and there are plenty of these jobs in the cannabis industry.
