Near The San Juan Islands

san-juanFamous for its world-class orca watching and steeped in the 19th century, The San Juan Islands grouping creates one of the most premier destinations in the United States. Located between Washington state and the Island of Victoria, BC, Canada, the grouping is only reachable by a ferry from the mainland. The San Juan’s are also home to the largest concentration of Bald Eagles in the United States, making the wildlife pretty extensive and very exclusive. The islands are located only 65 miles south of Seattle, so a weekend getaway is easy and welcoming, with many Seattle locals making trips throughout the year. The grouping has a total of 400 islands and large rocks, but only a handful are large enough for human development, and that is kept quite tight to preserve the natural beauty of the area. Lodging, tours, and visitors information can be found here.
