One of the countries most active volcanoes, St. Helens sits high at 8,360 feet above sea level with easily some of the most beautiful vistas in the world. The volcano is only 96 miles south of Seattle and 50 miles north of Portland, so if it were to erupt, we would all need to get out real quick! Climbed year round, with terrain ranging from novice to experienced, Mount St. Helens is a very popular destination for people from all over the world. In fact, there is a permit system and one is required if you wish to go above 4,800 feet. The volcano is still active, erupting every few years; the last eruption was July 10, 2008.
