Portland Unanimously Votes To Approve Cannabis Delivery Services
The Portland Oregon cannabis industry is about to receive a boost after their city council unanimously voted last night to approve the legalization of cannabis delivery services within city limits. This move was consciously made to give “the little guy” a shot at joining the bustling legal marijuana scene in town.
This new legislation was written with the intent of broadening the spectrum of business owners, and also to prevent the monopolization of the marketplace. The laws states that only those who do not own or associate with brick and mortar retail cannabis locations will have access to delivery licenses. This will effectively provide a new opportunity for “micro-entrepreneurs” who want to be involved in the industry, but otherwise would not have had the capital required to successfully run a shop and deal with the competition.
We think this is really cool that they are trying to make the city’s marijuana scene more all-inclusive and also be able to offer a wide variety of services and products. While there were less-than-legal delivery services in the city before now, it now will be above board to call up a courier and ask for a quarter of their finest sativa. This is outstanding!
Commissioner Amanda Fritz commented on the easy decision and said that she welcomes more revisions to the city’s marijuana code if more opportunities arise in the future that could potentially help better the scene for not only the many customers, but also the producers and retailers.
We will have to keep an eye on this for sure to see how it progresses, but a trip to Portland might be in store in the near future! Talk about convenience!
