With a population of around 41,094, the city of Westfield is the 33rd largest in the state of Massachusetts. The city was officially incorporated in 1920, but settlement began significantly earlier in 1660. The city produced an odd array of items, but their main staples were bricks, whips, and cigars. The city is even nicknamed “The Whip City.” What so many people needed whips for back then, we may never know…There were also several other items produced in town, but nothing to the extent of the previously mentioned goods. Bicycles were also produced in town.
Today the town also prides itself in maintaining a small town feel while still offering a wide variety of shopping experiences. There are only a handful of buildings that exceed the height of four stories, which makes the sky seem bigger, which locals love. It’s nice not feeling crowded by skyscrapers. There is also a good amount of open space in and around town, which contributes to the small town feeling.
In addition to all of the open space, there are also many parks in town. The Amelia Park Ice Rink and Memorial Garden is a popular spot to get out for a stroll, or to strap on skates in the winter. Another great place to check out is Stanley Park. The park is a great place to get the dogs out for a long walk.
Unfortunately there are currently no medical marijuana dispensaries located in town, but with the recent legalization of marijuana for recreational use in the state of Massachusetts, we hope that it will mean that some recreational shops will open their doors to the public in the area in the near future!
