Commonly known as “The Watch City,” Waltham, Massachusetts has a population of about 60,636, making it the 16th largest city in the state. The town got this nickname due to the Waltham Watch Company having had its origins and factory located in town. This company was the first ever to build watches on an assembly line. When all was said and done, the company had produced over 35 million timepieces before shutting their doors for good in the late 1950’s. This was a big deal for the town, and brought a lot of jobs and income to the area.

The city was officially incorporated in 1884, and sits along the Charles River. There are many dams in town, and they were built to power the many different textile mills and factories. Waltham is about 11 miles northwest of downtown Boston, and today houses many who work in the big city but prefer to escape from the hustle and bustle when they retire at the end of the day.

Waltham is also remembered for housing a major piece of rock and roll history. Boston natives Aerosmith rented a large space for many years to practice and crash and do all the other things that rock legends do . . . The facility was affably known as The Wherehouse, and many bands played there from the 1970’s and 80’s. Another famous local rock group, Boston got their start at the Wherehouse, and others like Ted Nugent would play the spot from time to time as well. The space is still there on Pond Street, but it no longer features the same raucous behavior it once did.

Unfortunately there are currently no medical marijuana dispensaries located in town, but with the recent legalization of marijuana for recreational use in the state of Massachusetts, we hope that it will mean that some recreational shops will open their doors to the public in the area in the near future!
