Shops In Quincy (Map)
Sitting just south of Boston, the town of Quincy has a population of about 92,271, and is the 8th largest town in the state of Massachusetts. The city is known as the “City of Presidents.” John Adams and John Quincy Adams were both from Quincy, and so was John Hancock, the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence.
The city was officially incorporated in 1888, and was the first place in the country to see the use of a commercial railroad. There have been many other instances of inventiveness in town as well. For example, the iron furnace was invented in town, and those became common all over the country. The city grew with the rock cutting and shipbuilding industries, and became a bustling area for both commerce and manufacturing. More recently, Howard Johnson Hotels, and Dunkin Donuts both got their starts in town.
Music lovers know Quincy for producing the Boston punk band Dropkick Murphys. Everyone has heard “I’m Shipping Up to Boston,” and the band formed in town in 1996.
Another interesting aspect of Quincy is that they have the highest concentration of people of Asian descent in the entire state. Many Chinese, Vietnamese, and East Indian people have been migrating to town for years. In 1980 there were about 750 people of Asian origin, and now there are over 22 thousand. Many people in this area work in technology positions, and there are increasingly huge numbers of asian restaurants and shopping centers.
As luck would have it, there is currently one medical marijuana dispensary in Quincy! With the recent legalization of recreational cannabis for adults 21 and over, you can expect that recreational shops will open in town once licensing and production regulations have been determined. We expect that rec shop doors should open around Summer 2018.
Come check out all that historic Quincy has to offer soon! It truly is a great place to relax and unwind, and with all of the Asian food options, we can’t wait to come check out the recreational shops and then get some Crab Rangoon.
