With a population of about 44,737, the city of Pittsfield is the 28th largest in the state of Massachusetts. The city was officially incorporated in 1761 and is located in the western part of the state.
The area is known for its beautiful landscapes and lush plant life.Even today, the majority of people who live in the city don’t take up even a fraction of the space in the town. There are beautiful lakes, rolling hills, a gorgeous river, and even small mountains. What more could you ask for on the East Coast? Outdoor enthusiasts flock to Pittsfield to spend their downtime relaxing and recreating at places like Onota Lake and Pontoosuc Lake, or hiking the Berkshire Hills. The Housatonic River is a great place to go for a long walk beside, and the Taconic Range to the west offers the highest elevations in the state if you fancy a climb.
If you’re a music lover, the Boston Symphony Orchestra comes to town every summer, and their shows are always a treat! Also, the Colonial Theater resides in town and has been in operation since 1903. It is awesome to see all of the different cultural offerings in Pittsfield.
If hitting the links is your thing to do, Pittsfield also has a ton of country clubs and golf courses available to the public, so don’t forget to pack your clubs! If you’d rather spend the day on the water, you’ll likely fit in in town. Residents are pretty much issued a boat of some sort when they move to town.
Unfortunately there are currently no medical marijuana dispensaries located in town, but with the recent legalization of marijuana for recreational use in the state of Massachusetts, we hope that it will mean that some recreational shops will open their doors to the public in the area in the near future!
