With a population of about 52,376, the city of Peabody is the 25th largest in the state of Massachusetts. Located in the North Shore region of the state, the town was officially incorporated in 1916, but settlement began in 1626. The town is well known for their efforts in hide tanning and producing fine leather goods.
The town began as a farming community, but when water power became a driving force in industry, the town switched gears and became the premiere source for anything made of leather. The town is located at the bank of the Ipswich River, and also has a small portion of the Waters River running through town as well. There is also some small ponds and a lake in town, so water activities are prevalent around the city. There is tons of great places to hit with a fishing rod or a kayak, and swimming is a must on a hot summer day!
Another cool thing about the town is that this is where singer/songwriter Ryan Montbleau was born and raised. If you haven’t heard his stuff, definitely give him a listen, he is pretty darn good!
If you live to shop til you drop, the Northshore Mall has all the best shops you know and love as well as a litany of small boutique shops where one of a kind craft goods are sold. There are also several restaurant options in and around the mall, and this makes it super easy to refuel after a long day of treating yourself!
Unfortunately there are currently no medical marijuana dispensaries located in town, but with the recent legalization of marijuana for recreational use in the state of Massachusetts, we hope that it will mean that some recreational shops will open their doors to the public in the area in the near future!
