With a population of about 95,072, New Bedford is the 6th largest city in Massachusetts. Located off the southern coast of the state, the town is affably known as the “Whaling City” because of the size of that industry in the 19th century. The city was officially incorporated in 1787, and today has the largest concentration of Portuguese-American citizens in all of the country.

The Feast of the Blessed Sacrament is held in town every year, and it is the largest Portuguese-American gathering in the nation as well! This event is one of many that occur in town on an annual basis, and with all these events comes large scale tourism. The city sees many new faces every day, and those faces have wallets full of cash they like to spend in town. With all this tourism, the town continues to grow at a fairly rapid rate.

For you golf fanatics, Titleist has a manufacturing plant in town where they produce everything from clubs and balls to apparel. There is also a huge fishing industry in town. East Coasters love their seafood, and keeping them all in lobster rolls and clam chowder is some serious work!
The city is also home to the New Bedford Whaling Museum. This facility is the second largest museum dedicated to the history of whaling in the country. The museum has many videos and relics from the city’s rich whaling history. They also explore the history of man’s interactions with the creatures. One cool thing to see there is an actual whale skeleton that is 66 feet long, and really puts their awe inspiring size into perspective.

Another point of interest in town is the New Bedford Art Museum. The facility is located in historic downtown, and is always featuring works of all mediums from both local artists and non. This place has some beautiful works, and is always worth checking out!

Unfortunately there currently are no retail marijuana locations open to the public, but with the recent legalization of recreational cannabis for adults 21 and over, recreational shops should start opening in the state around Summer 2018.

Come check out all New Bedford has to offer soon! It is a great place to visit, and you can really relax and unwind here! Don’t just take our word for it, come see it for yourself!
