Shops In Fitchburg (Map)
With a population of around 40,318, the city of Fitchburg is the 35th largest in the state of Massachusetts. The city was officially incorporated in 1760, but settlement began 30 years earlier in 1730. The city is nicknamed The City by the RIver, and is home to Fitchburg State University. The city got this nickname for its location on the bank of the Nashua River. The river helped bring a lot of industrial production to town by bringing water power to many mills and factories. There were a wide variety of goods produced in town including firearms, paper, textiles and more.
Art lovers adore the city for the Fitchburg Art Museum. The museum has been open since the 1920’s and has a permanent collection that is over 5,000 pieces in total. The museum was opened by a local woman, and it has been a focal point of the city for nearly 100 years.
Another spot to see in Fitchburg is the Rollstone Boulder. This enormous piece of granite looks like a giant walnut, and is held up by stones. The boulder itself weighs over 110 tons and was carried there by glaciers.
Unfortunately there are currently no medical marijuana dispensaries located in town, but with the recent legalization of marijuana for recreational use in the state of Massachusetts, we hope that it will mean that some recreational shops will open their doors to the public in the area in the near future!
