When did voters pass a bill to allow marijuana to be sold in Delaware, and when did dispensaries actually start opening?

On May 13 2011 medical marijuana laws passed after the Governor signed a bill legalizing it. First this bill passed the state senate. Conditions required to get a medical marijuana card can be pretty extreme. The first dispensaries for medical marijuana did not open until June 2015. Dispensaries in Delaware face some of the tightest restrictions compared to other states.

Delaware has not legalized marijuana. Possession of under 1oz has been decriminalized, but still carries a hefty fine. Possession of larger amounts will likely lead to jail time. They have a medical marijuana program which started in 2011. You need a card which is issued by doctor to be a part of the program. There are a number of qualifying medical conditions that make one eligible for the program. It is very difficult to obtain one of these cards.

The voters passed the bill legalizing medical marijuana in 2011. On June 26, 2015, the state’s first compassion center was opened. Pot is still currently illegal for recreational use, but if you are caught with under a gram in your possession you are generally just given a summons.
