Littleton is a suburb of Denver, and is the county seat of Arapahoe County. The town of just over 40,000 is the 20th largest town in Colorado, and has a rich history.
The town dates back to 1862, and was brought to the attention of founder Richard Sullivan Little shortly after the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush of 1859. Little aimed to work on irrigation systems for the rapidly developing area, and also helped start the Rough and Ready Flour Mill, which helped with the financial development of the area as well.
Today, many head to the town to hear the Littleton Symphony Orchestra, or to visit the Depot Art Gallery and Littleton Fine Arts Guild. Folks also love going to the Hudson Gardens, which is a free botanical garden that is open every day of the year.
If you find yourself in Littleton around the Christmas holidays, be sure to check out the Candlelight Walk, an annual event that incorporates many festive activities including the ceremonious lighting of the trees along Main St.
One little known fact about Littleton is that South Park creator Matt Stone went to Heritage High School in town, and may have loosely based some parts of the show on this area.
