Located up I-70, 82 miles West of Denver, Breckenridge sits in the middle of Summit County at the base of The Tenmile Mountain Range. Fun fact: Breckenridge actually filled in for Aspen, for the filming of the Hollywood movie Dumb and Dumber. Known primarily for its world-class ski resort, 5,000 people call the city home full time, with thousands more visiting throughout the year, a large portion of these people owning second homes in the area.
While the city is mostly populated during the winter months as it is home to the 3,000 acre Breckenridge Ski Resort, the summertime brings some fantastic outdoors activities: hiking, biking, fly-fishing, and Lake Dillon is just down the road for some water skiing or boating. The city has legal cannabis clubs readily available, but with a street clothes police force maybe it is not so smart to indulge in public, although it is just a simple fine.
The city definitely has a mild free for all vibe, Breckenridge is tame but also wild when let out of its cage, and that usually happens when there is a citywide event.
Breckenridge is also home to quite a few annual event:, The Dew Tour has a major stop here and Oktoberfest happens every year (which is a ton of fun if you enjoy craft beer and German food). The Breckenridge Festival of Film, The Ullr Fest, and the annual Fourth of July Parade all bring in thousands of visitors looking to have a good time.
