In Santa Monica
Home to the Iconic Santa Monica Beach Pier, Santa Monica sits on the Pacific coach dwarfed by the city of Los Angeles. An international destination for its beautiful beaches and agreeable weather, Santa Monica is a beautiful beach town with 93,000 full time citizens. Over the last 50 years Santa Monica has seen massive growth with an influx of technology companies and tourists looking to get away in one of numerous resorts sprawling across the city.
In 2015 over 8.3 tourists visited the city, driving 1.84 billion dollars into the local economy. This is a massive market that has just started to touch the medical cannabis industry; 2015 was the first time Santa Monica had allowed two medical dispensaries to open within the city limits. Santa Monica is becoming more and more cannabis friendly, but it is taking some time. The city moves at a slow pace, steeped in it traditional California beach-town ways. The Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA) was just passed on the eighth of November, so hopefully an influx of recreational retail marijuana shops will open in town soon!
Santa Monica is also a surfing hub for California and visitors; the pier helps create a nice break on the beach, one that attracts tens of thousands of people each year. The city also just launched a bike-sharing program in 2015 and is incredibly walkable; 71.8% of the tourists who booked hotels did not drive cars during their visit to Santa Monica.
The nightlife is also a big draw for people vacationing, Main Street is packed full of eateries and bars for everyone to enjoy. For a full directory of cannabis shops in California, click here.
