With a population of just over 157,000, the town of Salinas is the 34th largest in the state of California. The town was founded in 1854, incorporated 20 years later in 1874, and was a huge producer of many different agricultural pursuits ranging from grapes and vineyards to flowers and vegetables. Today the town is mostly suburban with many small businesses.

One cool thing about Salinas is that this was the birthplace of the brilliant author, John Steinbeck. Steinbeck even set many of his novels in the same town as his upbringing, and they have an annual festival in his honor. Steinbeck won the Nobel Prize in Literature, and to see his decorated career of words memorialized is surreal.

Salinas is also where the California Rodeo is hosted. The facility is PRCA sanctioned, and is always entertaining to watch! This location is also a frequent stop for professional events, so you can see some of the best and brightest in the rodeo circuits here in town!

The town is also known for its wine production, and there are over 20 vineyards in town. Alongside those vineyards are over 14 estate tasting rooms where connoisseurs can sample some of the offerings from one of the greatest wine producing areas in the world.

There currently aren’t any retail marijuana locations of any sort in town, but because the Adult Use of Marijuana Act is passed on the 8th of November, maybe some recreational locations will open in the near future. Here’s to hoping! Check back here for more info and to see what comes next for the town of Salinas!
