Sitting 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles rests the city of Ontario, California. The town is home to about 171,000 and is the state’s 29th largest metropolitan area. The LA/Ontario International Airport is also located in town, and brings in thousands of visitors a year!
The town was formed in 1881 by the Canadian engineers who purchased the land, water rights, and named their new development after their Canadian homeland. The town was officially incorporated in 1891, and has been growing rapidly ever since!
Today, the town is a popular tourist location for those who want to see sunny Southern California, and there is much to see and do in town! One aspect of the town that brings in many tourism dollars is the RMS Queen Mary. The retired ocean liner sits in a fixed location now instead of traveling the North Atlantic Ocean, and is home to many restaurants, shopping locations, hotel, and even a museum of the ship’s history of providing luxurious trips across the sea. The ship is even included in the National Historic Registry, and is a cool place to learn about maritime history and experience the culture of the area.
Another fun thing to do in Ontario is dancing the night away at Club Jazz Cafe. The club hosts some of the best local DJs in the area, and always has some of the hottest songs spinning for your listening pleasure. The facility also serves up some of the best Southern Cajun food in the area, so bring your appetite, because dancing til dawn on an empty stomach is never a good idea!
Unfortunately Ontario currently doesn’t have any retail marijuana locations of any sort, but because the Adult Use of Marijuana Act was passed on November 8th, recreational shops should open in the area in the near future. Keep your eyes peeled!
