Oakland Marijuana Information
In Oakland
Right across the bridge from San Francisco, is the 11th ranked city for artists and designers. Oakland is quite an interesting cauldron of art, people, and crime. Much of its violent and chaotic past falling on the wayside, Oakland is becoming one of the coolest cities in the country to visit. The art scene is blowing up with multiple new, sophisticated venues taking over and the expanding nightlife taking shape, it is a hot destination for something a bit different from the bustle of San Francisco.
Oakland is a weed friendly city, with numerous medical marijuana clubs sprawled throughout the city. It is not uncommon to walk down a main street and smell someone enjoying their cannabis. In fact, this year the city passed more ordinances to allow the creation of new cannabis dispensaries, grow operations and processing center in the city limits. While public consumption is illegal, make your own call and be smart. The Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA) was passed on the eighth of November, and now marijuana is legal for adults over the age of 21! You can expect Oakland to be a main supplier of high quality herb for the state, and we can’t wait to see what comes next when recreational shops start opening.
One of the more eclectic areas in Oakland is the US9 area, full of funky retail shops, art spaces, and bars, and we highly recommend visiting that area. Lake Merritt is a hot spot for swimming, boating and other water based activities. Another great spot for entertainment is the historic Fox Theater, opened in 1928 and exquisitely restored with 2,800 seats.
Oakland claims to have more artists per capita than any other city in the United Stated and that is becoming more and more apparent, although not quite a metric one can measure. In 2013 an estimated 2.5 million tourists visited Oakland moving over $1.3 Billion in the local economy, so things have picked up quite a bit. Another fantastic event to attend is the Oakland Art Murmer. Happening every first Friday of every month, the event spans 30 art galleries, numerous concert venues, and ultimately twenty square blocks of fun and entertainment. The event has gained quite a bit of notoriety attracting up to 20,000 people looking to enjoy live music, food trucks, and some funky art.
Oakland is also home to the famous NFL team The Raiders, and The MLB team the Athletics. Football and baseball have a stronghold on the city and we recommend everyone go to see at least one of these historic and locally important past times.
We just recommend staying away from East Oakland, for the most part…the rest of the city is very safe and exciting. For a full directory of cannabis shops in California, click here.
