Sitting in the southeast part of the San Francisco Bay area is Fremont, California. The town is the 16th largest in the state, with a population of just over 232,000. The town is mostly suburban, and serves as a residence to many who work in the San Francisco area. The town was officially incorporated 1956 after combining with several smaller towns to make one larger one.
Fremont has a rich history, and the area grew rapidly as more traveled West for the famous Gold Rush. In the early 1910’s, Charlie Chaplin filmed many of his films in town at the Essanay Studios. A little later down the road, tech company Apple had a manufacturing plant in Fremont, and their first ever Mac computer was made there! Fremont has been a happening place for quite some time now!
Local hotspots for cultural history and information are the Museum of Local History, and the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum and Edison Theater. Both are so wildly informational, it is fascinating! And watching silent films is a really great way to connect with the past and see how far technology has come in such a short time period!
Many also love just walking around town and seeing all of the outdoor sculptures that are placed around town. There are so many of them that feature diverse styles and subject matters, so it’s like the whole town is one giant art gallery. It is fun to see how many you can see in one day!
Unfortunately, there currently aren’t any retail marijuana shops in Fremont, but because the Adult Use of Marijuana Act was passed in November, some recreational shops may open in the future!
