Edmonton, AB

With a population of about 899,447, Edmonton is the second largest city in the province of Alberta. The city was officially incorporated in 1904, but the founding of Edmonton happened significantly earlier in 1795.

The area was first explored by Europeans when an explorer from the Hudson’s Bay Company was sent out to find the Aboriginal people of the area and set up a trading post so that all the people in the area may help each other survive and build commerce as well. Edmonton was strategically placed on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River so that it could have the greatest accessibility so that traders could come into town. The city later experienced a rapid influx of growth in 1905 when the Canadian Northern Railway established a stop in town.

The city then again saw a huge rise in population after the Edmonton City Centre Airport opened and became the first licensed airfield in all of Canada. As a result of being the only place that could be reached by plane, the city became a popular spot to stop and stock up on supplies and refuel before heading further North, deeper into Canada. This gained Edmonton a fun nickname. The city is known as being “The Gateway to the North,” and I think they enjoy having this distinction.

Today, the city is known for being one of the premiere producers of oil and natural gas in all of Canada. These industries have not only kept the town afloat, but helped it thrive when other industries were beginning to fail. There are also a large number of technology related businesses in town that keep pushing the realms of possibility, and help the city thrive.

If you love to shop, Edmonton is home to the largest mall in North America! The West Edmonton Mall is enormous and almost overwhelming. The facility is also known for being the 10th largest mall in the world, and it makes the Mall of America look like a strip mall by the airport. The shopping and dining options are endless, so be careful, or you might spend your entire trip at the mall!

The city also offers a huge amount of parks, museums, theaters, and more. So much so that it could take us days trying to tell you about all there is to see and do in town. Definitely don’t snooze on Edmonton, it is a beautiful place to check out.

There are no retail medical marijuana shops in Canada, instead they utilize a system where meds are distributed through the mail or by personal delivery. That being said, we haven’t yet started a Edmonton dispensary map & directory, but when recreational shops do start opening, we will definitely create one, so keep your eyes peeled for more once the legalization does occur.

Come check out Edmonton as soon as you possibly can! It is an easy place to lose yourself in, because it is such a cool and beautiful city. If you would like more information on Alberta Marijuana Laws, click here!
