In Fort Collins
Located 65 miles North of Denver, Fort Collins rests beautifully on the Cache La Poudre River, in the shadows of the Rocky Mountain Front Range. With a relatively mid-sized population of 161,000, Fort Collins is a nice getaway from the mega city life, and one that is a bit more focused on beer and college sports. Fort Collins is home to Colorado State University, boasting 33,000 wild students, numerous ranked NCAA Division one teams, and quite a party atmosphere. The first legal marijuana store opened its doors in 2014, aptly named “Choice Organics.” Choice Organics has been monumental in paving the way for Fort Collins dispensaries and the growth the industry has seen in the last two years since legalization. The city is also home to numerous craft breweries, including: New Belgium, The Odell Brewing Company, Fort Collins Brewing, and Equinox Brewing, so your pint glass will never go dry. The Colorado Brewers Festival takes place annually in Fort Collins, bringing in 30,000 tourists from around the country, all looking to drink something special.
One of the most interesting facts about the city is its relatively new sustainability project, named FortZED. FortZED is a private-public partnership initiative with a goal of using smart grid technology and renewable energy technologies with the goal of achieving local energy optimization. Fort Collins is very focused on pushing the limits on where the city of the future can go and they are setting a precedent with this project.
